Here are a few recordings I've made off the sound board at Pizzarico's, a local pizza shop that hosts a fun open mic night on Thursday nights. These recordings seem to be quite popular, so I've put them up here. I'd love to burn everyone that participates a CD, but that would be prohibitively expensive for me. However, I also happen to have a server full of bandwidth. So, you guys get the technological solution!
I've done my best to master this stuff well, but there are a few limitations and occasionally there will be a glitch or two. This also takes a lot of work on my part. To produce the 2.5 hours of content on July 31st, for example, it took me probably 10 or 15 hours of labour! It can be hard to find that time.
All the metadata here is gathered to the best of my ability. I try to use my little memory as well as I can, but sometimes I mess up, and there's lots I don't know. If you have any corrections for me or would just like a track removed, I can be reached at pizzaricos@benjamincook.ca. Yeah, that opens me up to a lot of spam. I hope you appreciate my sacrifice. ;_;
If you're a technical sort, you can read a bit about some of my methodologies.
Anyhow, enough essay, on to the music! All songs are listed in chronological order.

All of these recordings were taken with an Edirol UA-25. Given the peculiar sound setup at Pizzarico's, I have exactly two channels of audio data to work with, and one is the main out that goes to the speakers. The other I'm free to twiddle with. Most musicians that attend sing and play guitar. In that case, I take the microphone output as the other channel. So, at the end of it all, I get two channels of nice 44.1kHz, 24-bit audio, recorded using ASIO for nice low latency in the preview output.
Then, using some mathematical magic (inter-channel mixing), I can pull out the guitar and the vocals and put one on each side of the stereo field. I fade out at the end, balance the two stereo channels, do any de-clipping necessary if I was negligent in my watchful gaze on the sensitivity knobs, and even trim out mistakes from time to time.
After the editing, I ReplayGain scan them. I use noise-shaped dither and apply the ReplayGain to the track as I drop the bit-depth down to 16-bit, proper CD audio for the archival copy. Then I encode to LAME v3.98 V2 quality MP3 from the 24-bit sources and upload!
